Patient rights & Responsibilities

Recognizing that each patient is an independent individual with unique healthcare needs, we at Al Banon Specialized Hospital strive to provide the full range of healthcare they require and respond to their service demands and needs within the hospital’s capabilities. This is the hospital’s primary goal and is governed by its policies, laws, and regulations.

Access to Care:

A patient shall not be denied appropriate care on the basis of race, religion, customs, color, nationality, origin, sex, age, disability, marital status, source of income, or type of medical cost coverage. All patients will receive equal medical treatment for the same diagnosis and healthcare needs.
A patient has the right to request additional care, such as wheelchairs, to compensate for their disability if they are disabled.

Respect:

The patient will be treated with consideration, respect, and full appreciation for their dignity and independent personality, including privacy in treatment and personal care, especially for patients with special needs.
Patients will not be subjected to any form of physical or sexual abuse, nor will they be treated inappropriately by anyone.

Safety and Security:

Patients have the right to expect the highest possible level of safety regarding the hospital environment and the conduct of medical procedures. Patients, regardless of age, are protected from harassment, violence, or harm. The hospital also provides special protection for newborns by applying the highest applicable safety and security standards.

  • Patients will be verbally informed of their full rights and responsibilities and the consequences thereof.
  • The patient will be informed of all matters related to their medical condition by the designated service provider.
  • The patient will be informed of all financial obligations, which may be determined in advance, and any additional services that may be required for treatment.
  • The patient will be informed confidentially if their needs exceed the hospital’s care capabilities.

Communication:

The patient must be free to contact, accompany, or meet with anyone in private, including family members and friends, within the limits of respect for the rights of others.
Translators are also provided if the patient cannot understand the language spoken by their caregiver.

Privacy:

The patient has the right to personal privacy and must have the right to choose whether to visit.
The patient has the right to be seen and examined in private or to choose a companion to be present during physical examinations.

Confidentiality:

Written consent must be obtained from the patient before imaging (especially facial imaging).
Confidentiality must be maintained for all patient data in the patient’s medical record by not discussing this information with others and not disclosing the patient’s name when discussing any information related to their illness.
The patient has the right to obtain a medical report.
Written authorization must be obtained from the patient before giving any information about their current condition to anyone.

Consent to or Refusal of Treatment:

The patient has the right to make decisions regarding their care based on information provided by the healthcare provider. This includes information regarding the procedure to be performed, the potential risks and benefits, any additional procedures that may be necessary, the long-term consequences, the risks of not receiving treatment, and possible and available alternative treatments, including treatment options not available in the hospital.
This applies if the patient’s mental state allows them to make these decisions. The patient also has the right to refuse treatment and be informed of the medical consequences of such refusal.

Substitute Decision-Making:

The patient has the right to inform their healthcare provider of the decision they have already made regarding their healthcare, which should be implemented if they lose decision-making capacity.
Upon admission to the hospital, the patient has the right to appoint a substitute person to make healthcare decisions on their behalf, within the limits permitted by the law, if they lack decision-making capacity.

Complaints and Questions:

The patient has the right to be informed about the progress of their complaint.
The patient has the right to submit complaints within the timeframe specified in the hospital’s regulations regarding any form of care or service without being subjected to any restrictions, interference, coercion, or discrimination.
The patient also has the right to have their complaint reviewed in a timely and fair manner and to receive a response based on the hospital’s decision regarding their complaint.
The patient has the right to ask questions and receive answers accordingly.

Restrictions:

Patients should not be subjected to medication or physical restrictions unless physicians believe such measures are necessary to protect the patient or others, provided that such measures are authorized in writing by physicians and under continuous, comprehensive medical supervision for a specified period of time.

Transfer or Discharge:

The transfer or discharge of a patient from the hospital should be made after an appropriate discharge plan has been developed and for medical reasons only.
The patient must be informed of the reasons for the transfer and the measures taken to facilitate the transfer.
